Polytechnic F.C.

Polytechnic Football Club, originally, Hanover United Football Club is a football club from England, formed in 1873[1] or 1875[2]. It is believed to be the first football club to use United in its name[1]. It played its home matches at the Limes, Barnes, London[1], moving to a ground near Chiswick railway station in 1906[3]. The club is a full member of the Football Association, the Amateur Football Alliance and the Southern Amateur League[4]. It was named "Polytechnic" after the former name of the current University of Westminster (The Royal Polytechnic Institution).

The club entered the FA Cup under the name Hanover United between 1879 and 1887 winning 3 matches and losing to famous clubs of the day, Upton Park, Clapham Rovers and Old Carthusians[1]. Under the name Polytechnic Football Club, it entered intermittently, between 1892 and 1950. The finest hour was a 4-2 win over Luton Town in its first entrance under the new name[3]. The FA Amateur Cup was also entered between 1895 and 1970.[5]

They play at The Polytechnic Stadium, Chiswick.
